We have worked hard to keep our rules in line with the other Formula Ford racing series.  No need to change your car to race with us.  If you qualify to race with other series you most likely qualify to race with us.

Emerald Cup Rules

Rules (Identical to crossflow cup rules – this allows for easier inter-club races)

Monoposto Rules - We are running the 2016 Monoposto Racing Historic Ford and Club Ford Rules. Why? These are the worldwide rules for Historic Competition that the FIA, our sister clubs all over the US, UK, AU, CA, NZ and local clubs like CSRG, SVRA, HMSA, RMVR. VARA, HRG, SVRA, The Royale Series, SOVREN, and more are all adapting to.

Emerald Cup specific variations - We are making a few allowances to be more inclusive rather than less.
A minimum car weight of 1100 pounds with driver for Historic Fords and 1125 for Club Fords with Driver.
Wheels & tires Alloy wheels and the Avon "46" (or A29) or the Hoosier VFF are the two approved tires (as per Monoposto rules). For the 2022 season the Avon A26 can be used if unable to obtain other approved tires.
Rain tires – Avon or Hoosier can be run at the discretion of the racer.  Other rain tires can be approved by the emerald cup chair.
Scoring - Club Fords and Historic Fords will be scored as one category.
Points for this year will be: 10 - 1st, 8 - 2nd, 6 - 3rd, 5 - 4th, 4 - 5th, 3 - 6th, 2 - 7th, 1 - 8th
An additional point will be awarded for: Pole position Fastest lap Take the green flag.
The maximum points score for a "perfect" season would be 78 points. (6 poles, 6 starts, 6 fastest laps, 6 wins). Ties will be broken by number of race wins, followed by number of pole positions.
Competition Rules and Format - Because the racing in Formula Fords tends to be more competitive than in other vintage classes, we are also emphasizing the basics to keep us all safe
1. Each host club's rules are in force for each event. Be sure to review them carefully. If there are any variations, we will outline them in all the pre-race communication.
2. Any black flags, contact, illegal cars or unsportsmanlike/unfriendly behavior means you will be excluded from the series. Any exclusion by any VMC club, or host club, means exclusion from the series.
3. Front row drivers will maintain a moderate "pace car" speed until the green flag waves. If the front row jumps to race pace too soon, there will be wave offs and black flags.
4. No splitting backmarkers. Caring for your friends who are developing their skills or happy to race their buddies wherever they happen to be, is a core value of this program and of the Clubs we all support.
5. Saturday afternoon is the series attendance points race, followed by the podium party. You must be present to win prizes at the Saturday Podium Party, Sunday is a non-points race.
6. We want to grow FF racing in the PNW, so pack racing rules and etiquette are in effect... that means leave room.
7. Race engines need to keep the competition level. Approved Engine builds: Ivey; Loynings, Jack Shear, T-Zero, other engine builds can be approved.   Unapproved engine builds are free to race in the Emerald Cup but will not be eligible for points
8. Car weight validation required after exiting the track after the race
9. Yellow flag/Blocking/unsportsmanlike  penalties will be decided by the Emerald cup chair and be in 30 second increments
10. Officers - Emerald Cup chair, communication chair, awards chair
11. Car Preparation - We are very focused on safe, well prepared cars.
     a. The host club’s tech will certify the car is competition ready. However, occasionally the series will issue tech and safety bulletins for common key issues or problems. Competitors have one race weekend to comply with the bulletin if needed, with one exception.
     b. All cars will be period correct and presentable. Cars with below standard paint, graphics and other cosmetics, will have one year to remediate if directed to do so by the series or host club.
     c. Driver’s names, graphics, period correct advertising is encouraged, but note, may violate local club host rules. The series administrator will do everything possible to waive advertising rules by the host club.

The "Soft" Rules or Gentlemen/Ladies Agreements.
1. Pit together where possible.
2. The use of forward facing video Cameras is strongly encouraged
3. Remember, what is MOST important is the Vintage spirit & “esprit de corps” in our paddock. We are all here because we love FF racing! Lets remember that when the visor goes down. The Formula Ford Emerald Classic (FFEC) The FFEC is to promote Formula Ford vintage racing, the Vintage spirit, and esprit de corps in the Pacific Northwest region.

Track Record - These can only be set during the Emerald Cup Feature  Race and will stand until surpassed by another driver during a feature race

The Emerald Classic will consist of a “traveling race” to a historic track each year. Pit together whenever possible Podium awards and champagne will be awarded after the conclusion of the feature race at announced time. Drinking from your race shoe is approved but not recommended.
Suggested Entry fee $100 / season for prizes, champagne, etc The FFEC is not a for profit so all entry fees will be spent each year on food/prizes/champagne Guest drivers must register as a “Guest” to participate in the podium celebration ($20 / race suggested donation)
